Opera and Solana announce cooperation to support dApps and wallets in browsers

Opera browser provides support for Solana. The user will have a wallet and be fully compatible with dApps.

Step aside, brave, Opera browser wants to be the king of Web 3 browsers.

In an official blog post on Friday, December 10th, Opera announced a partnership with Solana Labs to increase native support for popular blockchains, enabling it to run the native Solana wallet and all dApps in the ecosystem.

Solana goes to the opera
The Opera team stated on Twitter that the integration is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2022. By then, users should be able to enjoy all the benefits of blockchain without any restrictions in desktop and mobile browsers

Opera's interest in Solana is not surprising. Since at least 2018, browsers have been taking a targeted approach to support cryptocurrency, blockchain technology, and the so-called Web 3.

This news does not seem to have brought much stimulus to the market. Opera's stock closed at $7.24 on Friday's trading day, down -4.36%, despite a slight increase from $6.96 at the beginning of the week.

As far as Solana is concerned, its price trend did not respond to this news and maintained the bearish trajectory that began after ATH in early November. Solana's native token SOL closed at $166.97 on the day, a drop of 7.86%. At the time of writing, the price has been revised to $169.21, which is still nearly 35% lower than its ATH, and its weekly performance is down 14%

Opera vs Brave: The Battle For The Web3

Unlike Web 1 (users consume content provided by the website) and Web 2 (users interact through a centralized platform), Web 3 does not have a centralized entity to control interaction, but communicates through technologies such as blockchain, where data is not Flow in a single point of failure network.

Some examples of Web 3 focused development are Sapien, UjoMusic, Storj, Filecoin, Hive, and Minds.

Despite some controversy, Brave has been the undisputed king of encrypted browsers for some time. The browser is even supported by its own blockchain, and its BAT token serves as the foundation of the entire ecosystem. It aims to rethink advertising and content promotion business, reward users who watch advertisements, and allow the community to reward high-quality content creators.

However, Opera has taken a more pragmatic approach. They did not develop cryptocurrency and did not want to create a new experience, but their browsers have adapted to Web3 like everyone else. In addition to Solana, Opera also has a local cryptocurrency wallet, Dapp support, and other features designed to adopt blockchain.
